Welcome to EMT 2014 in Reykjavik, Iceland!

May 29th – June 1st, 2014, JCI Reykjavík will host the European Multi-Twinning also known as „The EMT“.

The conference theme, Eco vs. Ego, is dedicated to a pressing matter in the Icelandic society these days.  Following a very successful marketing campaign after the volcanic eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in 2010, there has been a vast increase in the number of tourists who visit Iceland every year.

As good as that is for the economy, it has also raised some challenging questions, such as:

  • Is Iceland ready for so many tourists?
  • Can we protect our nature and at the same time provide high-quality service?
  • Could we demand eco-friendly and responsible behaviour from our guests, without them feeling restricted?

Our Friday afternoon theme session will be devoted to this discussion in the form of a World Café.  It will be held at Iðnó, a prestigious house built in 1897, located right next to the City Hall in downtown Reykjavík, on the banks of Reykjavík‘s lake, the Pond, or Tjörnin, as it is named in Icelandic.
